Use the Formula for the Area of a Circle

The formula is A=pi*r2 , where pi = approximately 3.1416 and r is the radius of the circle (length of a straight line drawn from the center to the outside edge of the circle. The area is pi times the radius squared.

For example, A circle 6 feet wide (6 ft. diameter) has a radius of 3 feet (diameter = 2r).

The area would be A = (3.1416) x (32) = 3.1416 x 9 = 28.2744 square feet for a 6-foot circle.

Remembering the Formulas

Many people confuse circumference and area. An easy way to remember is this:

Apple Pie Really Rocks- Area=(Pi)*r*r

Cherry Pie's Delicious- Circumference=(Pi)*diameter
