1 year is sufficient time to prepare for IITs. Dictating the number of hours without knowing your level of Preparations is very difficult. Typically top 100 rankers have been found to study 16 hours a day.

Focusiing on your fundamentals is the key and you have to clear all the fundamentals and decide how much time you need to do that.

I guess everyone has their own style and approach to cracking the JEE. But still, there might be a few methods that can be learnt from top rankers and applied. The key to success lies in solving more IIT JEE mock test. These area few that I feel will help you plan your IIT JEE mock test better:

  1. Analyze Your Performance: Any JEE mock test is of no use if you don’t analyse your performance. IIT JEE mock tests exist for this very reason. Make sure you analyse your performance and draw constructive inferences to perform better. The key is to take as many mock tests as possible and keep analyzing and improving.
  2. Identify: Through analysis of your performance in mock tests, you shall be able to identify the areas of improvement. This becomes significant for students solving IIT JEE main mock test. The topics and chapters where you consistently score low should become your priority. Devote time to these chapters and study with a high concentration to understand the core concepts and their applications. Retake the mock tests and check for improvement.
  3. Prioritise: The weaker areas and chapters must be prioritized with a logic. The chapters with maximum marks weightage in JEE mock tests and previous year papers should be your priority. Focus on these first. This approach will help you in improving your score. Don’t prioritise chapters which are important but carry little marks weightage. Make a list of chapters you are weak in with maximum marks weightage chapters at the top followed by other chapters in descending marks weightage.
  4. Time: taking IIT JEE mock test online repeatedly will also let you identify your stronger areas. Try to minimize the time spent on those questions and sections. Once your score starts improving in your weaker areas, aim for reducing the time spent on those questions as well.
  5. Source multiple mock tests: It is important to source JEE mock tests for regular practice. There are a lot of institutes that provide mock tests as part of their coaching program or standalone test series. Go for a reputed one which has a feature of post-test performance analysis and discussion and doubt clearing. Some of the mock test providers give an all India level ranking as well. Better to opt for the one that gives such features.
