How do you handle a pet mouse? |
[Edit] |
Answer
To start with, gain her trust by offering her pieces of food with your fingers and speaking to her calmly and gently. Once she is accepting food from you, wash your hands to remove the scent of food (so she wont confuse your fingers with a treat!) and then you can either A. Scoop her GENTLY up with your hand or B. grip the base (Never the tip or middle) of the tail and lift her onto your hand. Let her run from hand to hand or along your arm but keep your hands/arms low over a soft surface so if she falls she won't hurt herself. If you need to keep the mouse still for inspection, place her on your palm and lightly grip the base of the tail with your fingers.
Answer
What i did when i first got my mouse is i held her and clasped my hands together so that she would get used to my scent then i started taking her out of the cage 2-3 times a day for about 5 minutes then i let her sniff one of the dogs and then next time i took her out she was just fine and calm
