  2. Proximity or Nearness. This refers not only to geographical nearness but also to affinity of interest
  3. Consequence or Significant. This is about the impact of the story on people lives.
  4. Prominence. An ordinary events become news if it happens to people who are well-known to the public by reasons of wealth, social position, & achievement.
  5. Oddity or Unsureness. Items that could quality for Ripley's "Believe it or Not".
  6. Conflict. This involves competition and struggle.
  7. Human Interest. It appears to the emotion.
  8. Drama. This refers to heartrending stories.
  9. Progress. This involves any significant changes for the improvement of the community.
  10. Number. Example: Enrolment drops by 15%. This is news because enrolment reduction by 15% is statistically significant but if enrolment drop by, say 1% this is not news. The figure is regligible.
