You can do what's called "dual booting". When your computer starts up, it will give you the option to start either Windows XP or Linux.
To do this, however, you will need to partition your hard drive, which will erase everything (and I do mean everything on it). You can use software like GParted or fdisk to partition your hard drive.
You will also need software called a "boot loader". The most common boot loaders are LILO and GRUB, but you only need one. You can find links to both of these programs at the bottom of this page.
After you have partitioned your hard drive and installed LILO or GRUB, install Windows on your Windows partition and Linux on the second partition.
That's it! You now have Windows and Linux on the same computer.
