How do you install a cylinder head on an rb20det?In: Asian Cars |
[Edit] |
Answer
You need to put the #1 cylinder on top dead centre, either by lining that dot on the tooth of the cam belt gear up with the indent on the oil pump which is about 2cm from the right, or by lining up the main pully with the marks on the lower cam belt cover. the timing marks for the head are on the backing plate behind the cams, on the exhaust its on the rop right its a mark you cant miss, and on the left its to the left of the cam, close to being inline with the cam. the valves should be tuned 2 where the pistons are so you wont do any damage installing it. put the head gasket on, then sit the head on the engine on the block and line it up with the dowls and it will sit nicely on. the indents on the cams should be facing the correct way to get the head bolts in the head. dont forget the washers and oil up the bolts before you torque them down. and once the main bolts are on, dont forget the 3X10mm bolts on 3 of the corners of the engine, they may be small but u can blow the head gasket of they aren't on. you cant get a torque wrench on them so just do them up tight, but not over tight.
