If the window is VERY wide, use a supporting 2x4 cut to fit inside the vertical channels and close the window to the top of that. Be sure to move the unit toward one side of a very wide window and use a panel to block the openingn on the other side.

Also, support the bottom of the unit at the outermost sill with another price of lumber cut to fit.. Window acs are not designed to be merely hung by the top and bottom front edge.

I think first of all you have to make sure the window is strong enough to hold the weight of the AC. Is it upstairs or downstairs you are putting it? Downatairs, once you make sure the window can hold it , get a board to put under it on the outside and make sure it will hold the weight of the AC and if the window does hold, it pull out the sides and make sure they fit the window also. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE HELP....DO NOT ATTEMP TO DO IT BY YOURSELF..... this is my opinion.

If you mean windows that slide from side to side... This answer will apply. There are several companies that make a vertical designed A/C, and if you purchase that style the installation will be more obvious. The big difference is that you will have slightly more difficulty filling the gaps that are above and to the sides of the A/C unit. For the top of the A/C, I would cut a piece of exterior grade plywood to fill the void (paint to match). For the sides, they are more difficult, in as much as the likelihood of the A/C being the exact size is remote, so you will have to use the supplied kit plus use a foam product to reduce the likelihood of bugs getting around the installation. Please note that if your A/C is going to be mounted in a second floor window that some type of exterior shelf may have to be constructed either way some strong means of keeping the A/C from falling out of your window is the most important item to assure. There is no easy way for you to install this type of A/C. If you are trying to install a horizontal unit in this same type of window... please give up! Seek an alternative, maybe one of the newer style "ductless" A/C units (considerably more expensive.) Good Luck!

There are no portable air conditioner units with a window kit that will work for a casement window. Some customers have fashioned a solution using plexiglas to cover their entire window area and then have a small hole cut into the plexiglas for the hot air discharge hose. No solution is provided "out of the box" but some customers have fashioned their own.

A casement window is an older style of window with panes that open outward in French door style. They are generally long and thin. Special air conditioners can be bought, however they are quite expensive. It is sometimes possible to buy a small regular window unit, install it, and make a frame of wood to hold it in and block the rest of the window.

Hire an expert to install a support bar to hold the weight of the AC. The support bar must be mounted to the surface of the building, most preferably, a brick building.
