If an extension cord is required, use the shortest one portable. It needs to be a three prong, grounded cord and made from 12 Gauge wire. Portable air conditioners do not always require a window, which can be helpful for those in apartments with rules and regulations against objects in the window. They can also be vented out through the door and even through the roof. All you need to make sure of is that you have a way to seal of the area minus the exhaust pipe. Ceilings with removable tiles work very well, as do doors with small doggie doors that make sealing off easy. Use the same process as mentioned above with a window.
