For a 2.4 L: Attach 13 mm wrench to pulley tension bolt (the pulley without the ridges), and push counterclockwise or toward the body of the car. For the 2.2 L, the Haynes manual lists 15 mm wrench in the opposite direction.
There is a tensioner pully between the AC pump and the drive pully on the crank. You need to lossen the bolt, (not remove)in the center of the pully then turn the bolt in at the top of the pully mount to give enough slack to install another belt. Reverse the process to tighten the belt. If you can not reach in to the center bolt of the pully you will have to remove the inner fender to get to it.
The 1998 should be the same as the 94 there is a tensionometer that a 3/4 rathet will fit it. If you are standing in front of the engine look to tleft where the belt is and towards the back. It looks like a 2-3 in wheel. Put your ratchet or breaker bar in the square and pull this should loosen your belt
If you can have a friend help you with pulling the engine while you reinstall the bolts for the motor mount, it would be ideal. I did it this way myself. Below the alternator there is a bracket (auxiliary bracket) with 2 nuts and one bolt, loosen those but you don't need to remove them. Next, support the engine with a jack, make sure to remove the cup from the jack, use a piece of wood and place it under the oil pan to support the engine. Now remove the bolts from the motor mount which will drop the engine. Once you've done that you can slide the auxiliary bracket to the side which will give you enough room to slide the belt in. Once the belt is in, replace the motor mount and tighten the bolts to 37lbs with a torque wrench. Now you can tighten the nuts and bolt on the auxiliary bracket. If you have the tools to reach in, tighten those bolts to 37lbs as well, if not, use your best judgment on the torque. Once your nuts and bolts are tight, you can work the belt on the pulleys following the routing map. Long wrenchs or socket extentions with swivle head attachments help. Be patient and good luck, hope I explained it well enough to help.
