You have a great question and it certainly deserves an answer, but your answer is so in depth and mistakes so costly that an answer here would be too "over the top".

So, let me offer you this. There are many free seminars and information you could obtain from Home Depot or Lowes. There are a multitude of DIY books available at most chain book stores and home service centers like the ones I've mentioned. There are a multitude of construction personnel that because of the hard times are competing for your business that you could probably get it done for you, for a very affordable price. The accomplishment of doing your self is wonderful. But, if you never saw it done, or never participated in doing it before, with out help from the areas I mentioned above, You will have difficulty doing your self.

You don't do it. That is probably the dumbest thing you could do short of burning it down..... Do not ever do something that would reduce the value of your house. I would walk away from a house that had this done, regardless..... Vinyl siding is for cheap construction. As a rule, when you touch siding, it should not move. And lastly, it NEVER looks good (covering old siding with new) and ALWAYS looks cheap. Plus, you can never paint your house again....

To install vinyl siding you remove all the old siding if there has been past siding. Start at the top of your project. Always cut your pieces first by measuring the correct length and have pieces precut. Most sidings today are adaptive to each piece and very easy to put together. Move from top to bottom until you are done!

Vinyl siding, a popular exterior wall finish, expands and contracts significantly with changing temperatures. To allow for this movement, it must be installed correctly. The only specialized tools you will need to install vinyl siding are (1) a nail hole punch, for punching holes in cut panels; (2) a snap-lock punch, for dimpling panels where they are pressed into utility trim; and (3) an unlocking tool.

Vinyl siding is the perfect way to help protect your home. Many homeowners want to ensure that outside of their house is protected with the best possible materials. However, they are unaware of an easy tip for installing vinyl siding. Many homeowners place nails too closely to their home when installing their vinyl siding. Homeowners should ensure that they keep their siding nails placed properly or their siding may rip off during severe weather. Homeowners who properly place their siding nails will not have to have new siding installed after a strong storm.

Is it hard to install vinyl siding by myself?

Installing vinyl siding is not hard to do by yourself. You will need a few inexpensive tools and learn the basics which begin with the flashing, window and door trims, eaves, soffits before you ever get to the vinyl panels. The most important thing to remember is that water runs down, so you must make sure that your overlapping is always on top of the one below.

Install a vinyl floor on top of another vinyl floor?

No, you should not.

How to Clean Vinyl Siding?

One of the benefits of having vinyl siding on your home is that it is very easy to clean if it should get dirty. Dust and grime will inevitably collect in the cracks between your siding no matter what kind of siding you have. There are some simple ways to clean vinyl siding and keep it looking nice all year. Common Garden Hose Vinyl siding should be watered down at least once a week. The easiest way to rinse the siding on a weekly basis is to connect a spray attachment to your garden hose and spray the vinyl down. Start at the top of the wall, closest to the roof. This will allow any dirt that is washed off to run down onto the part of the siding that you have not cleaned yet. If you start at the bottom, you will have to run your hose back down the wall again because the wall will get dirty as you go. Soap and Water Once every few months it is a good idea to use some soap and water to clean your siding thoroughly. Most automotive supply stores carry soap that can be attached to a hose and sprayed through a special nozzle. Automotive soap will do an excellent job on vinyl siding. Spray your house down with the special soap attachment, then replace the soap attachment with your normal spray attachment to rinse the siding down again. Using soap that attaches to a hose will eliminate the need for you to climb a ladder and wash the siding by hand. Long Handled Brush Sometimes there are stubborn stains that develop on vinyl siding. Parts of the house that are near trees are particularly susceptible to staining. When a stain will not wash off with a hose, you will have to find a way to scrub the siding by hand. There are brushes that have been designed to wash the sides of recreational vehicles and will work wonderfully for washing hard to reach places on your vinyl siding. Dip the brush in a bucket of soapy water and then scrub the stain until it disappears. Once you are done, rinse the siding like normal.

How do you install an Exterior Door in a wall with vinyl siding when no previous door opening exists?

Remove the vinyl siding in the area of the door. It will unzip along the bottom and is nailed at the top. Locating the door approx. where you want it, remove a small section of inside sheetrock to locate studs and most outside walls have wiring in them. check for this. You will need to install a header above the door that is held up by 2x4's on each side. Make the opening big enough to accept the size door you are using, install the header and supports and cut outside sheathing and old siding and install door. If there is old lap siding then cut that back enough to allow for the trim on the new door. New J trim is installed around the door and the vinyl siding is cut to fit and reinstalled. Good advice. Just be sure to temporarily support the roof or floor above if there is one. If the door is a double door make sure the header is sufficient to carry the loads. If you are unsure, consult an engineer.

What is vinyl siding and how much does it cost?

Vinyl siding is a sort of plastic covering to go on top of the brickwork and cover it up. It's a cheaper alternative to aluminium siding, but not quite a durable. You can install it yourself if you're handy - you can buy it for $168 per carton in Home Depot and a carton covers 200sqft.There are a lot of environmental issues around it's production as a lot of toxic chemicals are used or produced as byproducts. It's also quite dangerous in a house fire as it produces very toxic smoke.

How should one prepare a floor before putting down new vinyl flooring?

It depends on the type of floor that you are putting down the vinyl flooring on top of. If it is concrete, then make sure it is clean, dry and repair any cracks or holes. If the old vinyl flooring is in good repair then just put the new vinyl flooring over it or use an embossing leveler for slightly worn vinyl flooring. If the old vinyl flooring is in very poor shape remove it completely. Plywood underlayment can be used for other types of flooring that you will put new vinyl flooring down on top of.

How do you glue down hardwood flooring?

Normally, installing new vinyl directly over old vinyl is not recommended because most manufacturers will not honor the warranty. Any bumps or dips in the surface can translate through your new vinyl. Dye or stains from the old vinyl can also seep into the new vinyl. But you can remedy this by applying an embossing leveler over the old vinyl, and then sealing it with an acrylic sealer. Then trowel your glue onto the sealed surface, and install your new vinyl. Most recommended practice, however, is to remove the old vinyl OR install new wood underlayment on top of the old vinyl. Then spread your glue and install new vinyl. As always, check the installation instructions for your new vinyl.

How do you install downspouts to vinylsiding?

The most important issue is making sure the vinyl siding has been installed properly. If all the nails have been put into the center of their slots and not nailed down too hard it should be fine to put a screw into one place in the vinyl. I prefer to use the prefabricated straps and sink panhead wood screws so they are about one turn past just touching (or 1/8") the vinyl. Usually you need to have 1.5" screws. Then sink one panhead metal screw through the strapping into the gutter. make sure to calk over / behind all the screws, especially on the vinyl. Do this 18" form the top and the bottom of the downspout, and if the downspout is greater than 10' in length extra strap(s) so no distance between straps is greater than 10'.

What type of paint should you use to paint a vinyl sofa?

The vinyl itself is the finish. I've never heard of anyone painting a vinyl floor. The paint just would not last and would look like garbage in no time at all. Easier to lay more vinyl or lino on top .
