But most important, DO NOT EVER use any chemicals of this kind on a pet. You will be risking sickness and serious problems if you do. DEET is especially harmful to cats and dogs. It can cause convulsions. Don't use anything other than veterinarian-approved preventatives like Frontline and Advantage. These do contain some mosquito repellent and they are safe for your pet.
For that matter, DEET is very harmful to humans, too. Tests have linked DEET with brain damage. It can also cause, at the least, nausea and vomiting. If you have anything containing DEET, you should dispose of it immediately. It's really dangerous stuff.

If myxomatosis is present in your region, you should have your rabbit vaccinated, and then you won't have to worry about what the rabbit comes into contact with (including the cage). Myxomatosis is spread by fleas and mosquitoes, and it's practically impossible to keep fleas and mosquitoes away from your rabbit: even if you keep the rabbit indoors and/or use mosquito netting, some fleas or mosquitoes can still get in and bite your rabbit.
