At Zamzows we carry a spay concentrate product called Zamzows Ultra Weed Control. This comes in Ready to Use and in concentrate. This product is safe for kids and pets once it is dry. Zamzows Ultra Weed Control in the concentrate form also "must" be applied with a tanks sprayer.

When it comes to killing thistles, I would also use a product called Stay-Put in addition to the Zamzows Ultra Weed Control. Zamzows StayPut Spreader and Sticker is used for better distribution and adhesion of all types of insecticides, herbicides and fungicides (liquids or wettable powders). StayPut helps your chemicals stick to the leaf of the plant and spread out evenly on the leaf to maximize effectiveness. By providing better distribution and adhesion of lawn and garden chemicals you can achieve greater effectiveness from your sprays and reduce leaching and product waste.

The use of both Zamzows Ultra Weed Control and Zamzows StayPut Spreader and Sticker will make the weed killer spray pass through the hair on the thistle leaves to get better kill ratio. It is ALMOST necessary to use both products to maximize your efficiency in killing thistle, in a timely order.

There is no better tool than a hoe. It is green non chemical and does the job.

There are three ways of doing this.

First: You can cut the lawn and as you do so cut the thistle using a lawn mower. However, the thistle will grow back.

Second: You can simply dig up the thistle (making sure you dig up the roots). You can do this with a small gardening trowel.

Three: Buy a weed killer that kills thistles, and simply follow the instructions it gives.

Shading, spraying, and waterlogging are ways to eliminate thistle weeds from gardens. The Compositae family member in question favors alkaline, heavy, well-drained soils in full sun even though the wildflowers in question tolerate acid, nutrient-deficient, sandy soils. Herbicides need to be applied in October and November and will be aided in their effectiveness by buzz-cutting, hoeing, preventing flowering, and solarizing.

Start digging about a foot away from plant. The tap root usually grows at an angle so it is imperative to pull out the entire plant to avoid regrowth.
