How do you know if your fish is a boy or a girl?

Males are slender,and are larger than the females about 2 times larger, the females look a little like a platy their fins are much smaller than a males. You can keep female bettas togeather, when you buy a male betta the males are generally alone sitting on a shelf in a small container that you would select or pick from.

It really depends on the species of fish to be positive, but if you're guessing:

Boys tend to be more colorful (stripes, dots, colors) or fancy (more bristles, longer fins) than girls

Boys tend to be more aggressive than girls

Boys will bump, chase, and push other boys around, while girls get to swim around immune...just like an elementary school playground.

Generally males have bright colors on them as to females, they would normally have a little dull color to them. Just not as bright as male

A boy goldfish has white little spots on its fin.A girl goldfish doesn't have white spots on its fin. This is only during breeding season though. Boys tend to have longer fins and tales and are more colorful. Girls aren't as active as male's they tend to just swim around slowly whereas male are a lot more fast and tend to chase females around. They also push a lot and bump into things.

You mean Siamese fighting fish? The males are long finned and brightly colored.
