I dont think that there are certain signs that you could look for as they are different in any person. How people react to pain or abuse like i stated before is different in each person. I think the best way to find out is by asking. But make sure you are not crossing her comfort zone when you ask just make sure she is comfortable talking about it. Otherwise it could be extremly upsetting for her and you both.

∙ 11y agoI was abused so I can tell you how it affects me. There is alot of pain, anger, sadness that comes with being abused. I felt suicidal at times, when I was younger. I was addicted to cigarettes. I was very lucky not being addicted to drugs or alcohol.
The pain can be overwhelming at times. I am on medications to help me deal with my pain and the other emotions. Also depression is a daily part of my life.
You never get over the abuse. It haunts you on a daily basis. Time doesn't heal all wounds. It just provides you with space from the events. The longer the time from the events, he might feel less emotions about it.
You feel powerless and couldn't stop it from happening. It never is the abuse survivors fault. It is the abusers fault.
Men are not supposed to be victims or allowed to be victims. This type of attitude prevents healing for the abused male.
