You know when your propane tank is empty when no more gas comes out of it but at some stores you can get that tank refilled.

*** An easy and cheap fix to your problem of wondering how much gas is in your tank is at propanegasminder site. I was having the same problem as you trying to figure out how much gas I had left. I found this website and figured i'd give it a try and I ordered this product. All you do is lift the tank and set it on the device. If the red shows your tank is low. Simple as that. I keep mine under my tank all the time. I love it and have been passing the word about it ever since. It is definitely a life saver and it's only 6.90 with shipping. It was so worth it. Hope this helps.

You can also buy gauges that go between your regulator and your tank that show the gas level. Without one of these tools, you're left with the first answer. It just stops putting out gas.

First you must now what size of bottle you have a grill bottle is a 20# bottle and will hold 20 pounds of propane. On the side of bottle will be a TW or tare weight usally around 18.5 this is the weight of the bottle empty 18.5 pounds. By weighing the bottle you can find out how full the bottle is. 18.5 tare weight + 20 pounds of propane=38.5 pounds(full bottle) what ever your bottle weighs over the tare weight is gas.

This is presumably cylindrical with dished ends. The cylindrical part is easy, take the diameter d, cross-sectional area = Pi x d2/4, then multiply by length. The dished ends are more difficult, but can probably be ignored to a reasonable approximation. If this is an ASME tank(stationairy tank), check the information plate attached to the tank look for a section that says "WATER CAPACITY" the number following will be the total capacity of liquid that the container will hold. Propane is only liquid under pressure so account for this and 80 percent should be the liquid fill level. If this is a DOT tank (portable tank) there should be a weight stamped on the collar in lbs. Divide this by 8.35 for water and 80 percent of that will be liquid fill also. You can also weigh the tank and subtract the tare weight (weight of container empty) from the full weight and give you the amount of product weight, divide by 4.24 for propane to get gallons.

the average "grill tank" holds twenty pounds of propane. if you look at the collar of the cylinder it will have a mark TW: 17.1 or something close to this. This stands for tare weight, or weight of the tank empty, which is usually around 17 to 18 lbs. Add 17 to 20 and your tank will weigh close to 37 pounds full (PS- because propane operates off pressure, there is always a pound or two of unused in the tank so your tank will be essentially empty at around 19 to 20 pounds)

Best way is to weigh an empty same size and brand tank. Then weigh a new full tank. Weigh your tank and see how many pounds you have left. If you use it a lot it won't take long for you to gestimate the remaining gas by just lifting the can. If you do use it a lot keep a full spare tank on hand anyway.

it is expired 12 years after the expiration date that is stamped into the metal collar around the the valve at the top of the tank. Expiration occurs at the end of the month that is stamped on the tank. At that point it would either need to be recertified or disposed of and a new tank purchased. When a tank has been recertified it will have another date stamped or engraved into the same general area and will then be good for another 5 years after the last day of the month of recertification.stamped on the collar

Check the tare weight or (TW) on the tank this is the weight of the cylinder empty. TW 18.5 would be the weight of the bottle empty. If you weigh your bottle and it weighs say 27 pounds 27-18.5=8.5 pounds left in the cylinder.

You can tell if a propane tank is empty by shaking it an listening to it. Swaying it about . The application you have linked it up to may not even ignite due to too little gas.

You should know when a propane tank is empty by tipping it side to side , if you hear the sound of liquid splashingg then its not empty .If you do the process above and you cant hear any liquid it is empty. If in doubt then leave the tank and get someone or a professional to remove it for you .

go to a hardware store and buy a pressure gauge ,make sure you get one that goes over the max.pressure of the tank ,it turns into the tank first, then hook up

your gas line to the grill ,when the tanks is empty ,be sure you remove your gauge before returning the empty bottle to be refilled,so you will have it the next time you use it.

Typical recertification stamp: MM XXX YY E MM -> 2 digit recertification month XXX ->3 character Re-qualifier's registration number YY -> 2 digit recertification year E ->States the cylinder has been externally examined WC -> Water capacity of the cylinder. TW -> Tare weight of the cylinder (what the tank weighs empty) ICC, DOT, BTE, CTC or TC -> Specification number eg. TC4BA240 10 89 -> Date of manufacture (October. 1989)

How much pressure in a 30 lb propane tank?

You cannot use output pressure to tell how full a tank is. The pressure will remain constant until it's just about out of propane. You can use weight, if you know how much it weighs when empty, and when full - then it's just simple math.

How do you tell when propane bottle nears empty?

All propane cylinders will have a TW stamped in the valve protection ring. The tare weight or TW is the weight of the cylinder empty. TW 18 would be a 18 pound empty cylinder. If you weigh a TW 18 cylinder on a bathroom scale, and it weighs 28 pounds there would be 10 pounds of propane remaining in the cylinder.
