How do you know when the clutch is bad?

Answer:
If it slips, chatters, or otherwise does not function properly, it more than likely needs replacing.

If it takes a real effort to put it to the floor. If when you have it on the floor, it takes a couple attempts to put it in gear, like the above answer, it grinds. In the mean time, try another gear before 1st, like try 2nd, and then first, to get more mileage out of your clutch; but start shopping around if it has these symptoms!
