By discipline and reward. When your pet does the trick correctly, celebrate and praise the pet and give it a reward and pet him nicely (don't always give them a treat!). The pet will soon understand that reward comes with doing what you want. When the pet does it wrong, NEVER hit them or hurt it in any way. This will just make them scared.
This is a good answer, although there is a dog respect and obedience training book called ''Teach your dog 100 English words'' by Michelle Welton - I am planning on buying this book. If you visit the website, you will see that there have been numerous reviews on the book by people that have purchased it and applied it their dogs training. According to the website, this book teaches your dog many tricks, as well as the basics (respecting their owner and being obedient). I think it would be worth looking at!

In the first paragraph: You do not need to submit the dog for not getting a trick right. If they are trying, be patient! If they are ignoring you, be patient. When they get it wrong, say no sternly. No hitting. When they get it right, be excited about it. Praise, and whatever reward you use for your dog.
