If you want any electricall componant in a car to work without having the ignition turned on, then they must be connected to a source of power upstream of the ignition switch electrical circuit. This is known as a "hot source". It's like having it connected directly to your battery. Some car manufacturers choose to have certain electrical componants connected to the "hot source". Most avoid it since it can lead to something like the following: leaving the light or radio on causing the battery to run down. By putting it on the cold side of the switch, the manufacturer prevents you from unintentionally running down your battery. First, using a simple electrical circut tester you can make or purchase at any car parts store, locate a circut in your fuse box that is "hot" while the key is out of the ignition. You can take the wire from the lighter, trace it back to your fuse panel, remove it from the cold side location, reattach it to the connection that you found was "hot" already. Remember that you are increasing the load on that circuit and may need to increase the size of the fuse in the circuit to prevent blowing the fuse every time you push in the lighter.

If you have access to a light bulb, wrap the bulb with some material (ex: a sock) and it will get hot enough to cause smoke and with some patience you'll be able to light your cigar.

- You can burn one end the stove

- Some light bulbs may work

- You can light it from someone who has one already lit, where you put the ends of the cigarettes together and inhale the unlit one

- You can use matches

- If you have a electric stove get a burnt match stick and try to burn it it will make a light to burn a ciggarette

You put your finger (if it's a old lighter, nail) on the wheel (located near the front) and pull it down, which makes sparks, then you pull your finger/nail from the wheel onto the button, which makes fluid go into the sparks, creating fire.

How you use a cigarette lighter depends on the type.

In a vehicle, you push the lighter all the way into the socket. When it gets hot, it will pop back out. Then you take it and touch it to the cigarette and inhale until it is lit. A wall lighter in an older building works similarly in that that you hold down the button, insert your cigarette into the hole, and puff until it is lit. Then you let go of the button.

If it is a metal lighter that uses liquid lighter fluid (not butane), then it is fairly simple to use. You open the lid and flick the wheel, and the spark from turning the wheel fast ignites the fuel-soaked wick. From there, you place your cigarette to the fire and puff until it is lit. Then you close the lid and that puts out the fire.

Butane lighters can be trickier to use. On the older ones, you simply flick the wheel and press the button as you do so. Then you hold the button down as you light your cigarette. On the newer ones, there are often extra safety mechanisms to made it more difficult for young children to use them. Some have a safety button under the button, and you might have to hold that back while you flick the wheel and push the button. Some have a metal band over the wheel to make it more difficult to use. If you have difficulty, you can sometimes use both hands and hold the button first with one hand and turn the wheel with the other.
