Burn more calories than you eat. It's always that simple, but there are quite a few caveats to that advice. If you eat nothing, you loose muscle mass and end up gaining all of the weight right back because at the end of your diet you have no muscle mass to continue burning calories. After all, calories are burned by muscles and without muscle the calories are just converted to fat.

The best way to drop the weight is to eat plenty of fruits, veggies and protein. Avoid the starches and fats in your diet, also drink plenty of water and avoid soda, alcohol, cheese, bread and anything with sugar listed as one of the first three ingredients. Read labels and keep the fat content down. Understand that sugar calories tend to cause an increase in insulin, which causes you to either burn the sugar as energy or store it as fat. Once the sugar is depleted, you feel hungry again and end up eating too much. Avoiding sugar gives you a much more steady blood sugar level and you won't get as hungry.

Whatever you do it needs to be accompanied with exercise. Do SOMETHING that makes you sweat and get a little out of breath. Good exercises include running, cycling, racquetball, hiking and I'm sure you can think of other activities. If you exercise for at least half an hour per day, and cut down on your calories, you SHALL loose weight.
