In its most uncontrolled state a werewolf will attack anything, even trees that seem the least bit 'suspicious'. A werewolf used all of its senses at hyper-awareness so just about anything will set them off.
In the first level of control a werewolf will attack that which looks like or behaves like prey or a challenge.
In the second level of control a werewolf might be able to resist stimulus but a true provoking or a really worthy chase, it could not.
In the third level of control (rare in the were-stage) a were-wolf would be like an angry dog, able to restrain itself but definitely snarly.
In the fourth level of control the person is not in the were-stage but the human stage. He is still irascible, easy to provoke into a fight and with the hyper-abilities he retains from the were-stage he is best to be nice to.
In the fifth stage he is a cranky human.
In the sixth stage he is nobodies fool but don't challenge his to a duel. Cool but capable of great elan.
The seventh level is only for those individuals who are newly 'infected' and haven't yet acquired any were-abilities. They display great anxiety and bouts of terror but this may only be normal for some one suspecting what is happening to him.
I can give you a site that has instructiions to be a therian. They are sort of like weres but are four leged and anyone (well almost anyone) can be one. Check out the related link.
Nobody has ever proved that they existed but to become one you have to be either scratched/cut or bitten by one. Although most werewolves are just a main part in some fiction/science fiction/fantasy...
