Do not "stick your hand in a bucket of plaster of Paris" as someone previously suggested!
Plaster of Paris can get really hot while setting and you would end up severely burning your hand...
A slightly more sensible approach is to make a mould of your hand using something like clay or alginate and then use that mould to create a plaster of Paris duplicate of your hand...
When Gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O) is heated to about 100ºC, it loses some water of crystallization and is converted to Plaster of Paris.
I use it to make molds of objects so that I can cast them later. For instance, Mixing alginate with water will create a thick toothpaste like consistency. While the substance is still wet, you can press objects into it, such as hands, creating a mold. After a few minutes the alginate sets and you can remove your hand. There will be a very fine detailed mold that contains even the fine lines from your hand. Use plaster of Paris to make a cast.
Using wax to make a casting of something in a mold and there is something called lost wax casting where you model something in wax, pour plaster around it to form a mold, melt the wax out and cast it in metal or resin.
Accidentally taking a sip of tea with mold in it will more than likely not make you sick. However, if large amounts were consumed, you could get mold sickness.
the reason soda makes mold grow faster is because soda is high in sugar and sugar is food for mold.
Bleach dose not kill mold it only makes it whiter. Go to your janitor store and get a bottle that they know the will kill the mold plus know they make green products for it too.
some people told me to put pva glue to the mix
No, sorry. Plaster of Paris expands and the plaster will stick to your molds and is impossible to remove. It will also remove some of the fine detailing of your mold. An alternative is to put the plaster on one of your finished pieces, half at a time to get a mold of the piece. This will give you a new mold of the piece without destroying your original mold.
Buy some concrete or plaster of paris. Mix and pour in a small square baking pan (one you don't use for baking is best). Coat the mold with cooking spray or vaseline and when the plaster starts to set up, press the paw into it-you could probably even do stepping stones with the right mold.
can anybody tell me please i want to know if i can paint fiberglass Matt over a plaster of Paris shape witch i have taken again from a rubber mould is it possiball to do this

Clay can be molded by hand or by using a potters wheel to shape it. There are many techniques for shaping clay both by hand and machine. One of the common ways to mold clay is by liquefying the clay with water to make slip. The slip is then poured into molds made of plaster. The plaster absorbs the water from the clay leaving a clay wall behind in the mold in the shape of the mold. The mold is then disassembled and the resulting form, known as greenware, is slowly dried and then fired.
The hardness of plaster mold silicone rubber refers to the amount of pressure required to form indentations on the silicone rubber. The higher the hardness, the greater the pressure needed. Plaster mold silicone can be used for a variety of applications, including medical devices, food-grade products, and cosmetics.

The plaster mold is very, very dry. When you pour, the clay slip is mostly water and the plaster mold sucks up the moisture quickly, creating a coating inside the mold. It's like pouring gravy onto a sponge...the water is absorbed, but the solids stay on top of the sponge if you leave it long enough. It's the same way with a plaster mold..it's a sponge. That's the reason you watch the pour opening and pour out the excess when it is the thickness you need. The plaster will continue to absorb until the clay pulls away from the mold naturally, yet it is still green.
To make your own severed hand gelatin, you can buy the mold at http://www.stupid.com/fun/HANDY.html for $10. Mix per the directions and enjoy!
start with a wire frame. The grade of the wire will be determined by the size and therefore the weight the wire will be supporting. for very large projects, you might want to try wood, though I have never done this. Cover the shaped form with window screening, again, shaped to whatever you want. Mix cement and smooth over and inside your shaped form pushing the cement through the small holes in screening as much as possible to make a solid form of desired thickness. Allow to dry. Sand down any rough edges if desired. If you like, paint or seal in some way, though the material is very hardy against weather. There is also the option of carving your own mold out of any material, spraying on a loosening agent and filling mold with plaster of paris. Plaster won't stand up to weather as well, but you can get alot more detail in someting like this, and the product can be sealed and painted also to hold up more to wetness outside. First, you want to make the mold you need to get an acrylic which is a piece of glass, wood, or something to put the mold on, a glue stick or a bottle of glue, a design that you want to make into a statue, something that fits around the mold like a cup or a box, scissors. Next thing you do is you get the acrylic and the design and you glue the design on to the mold. Then you take the cup or box and cut it so that it is about an inch above the design. Have it sit out for a minute or two then you take the cup or box off the mold. After you do that, you want to make the plaster, you do this by getting hydrated lime, sand, and water. Then you mix and you have it sit out for two to three days. After it has sit out for two to three days, you have to get these items the mold, the plaster, water, scraper. Mix the plaster and the water together, put it in the mold, and then scrape the top of the mold to even it off. Let it sit for one day. After you have the mold out for one-day make, sure it is hardened if not keep the mold out until it is. then take the plaster out of the mold and you have got yourself a statue. If you want to paint your statue, you need these items Acrylic paint, and Spray Enamel to dry it. Then you are ready to show your hand made statue to the world. I'd love to know what you come up with! m.j. or you can
