Growing Wings for Halloween
I recently made a set of wings for my friend's three year old niece, and I found the best way was to use a thicker wire (I actually used soldering wire because it is easy to shape and available at any hardware store)to create the outside line of the wings. Then using a smaller guage wire, I filled in the "veins" of the wings by wrapping the ends of the smaller guage around the edge of the soldering wire and creating the pattern of my veins. To finish it, I outlined the wings on a piece of paper to create a pattern. Then cut a sheer, metallic fabric to fit the outline. I sewed two pieces of the material (which were cut into the shape of the wing using the pattern), flipped the material inside out, then slipped the fabric over the wing. Finally, I whip stitched around the veins (and through both pieces of fabric). To attach the wings, I used clear, adjustable, bra straps; which could then be used almost like a backpack (over the shoulders). I hope this helps...
