It's actually very easy! Buy (at least two) small packages of polymer clay from Michael's Craft Store, (least I did), a razor blade, toothpicks, earring posts and earring backings. Mold whatever shape you want, like a spiral, and cut 'em in half. Stick a toothpick in the center and dig relatively deep into it. Then put the backing in and gently squish the clay around the backing so it stays in there nice and firm. Then put them on a cookie tray/sheet/wax paper, put them in the oven for fifteen minutes at 275 degrees Fahrenheit, and whala!
