Game Description

Crossword Maker is an enhanced and updated version of Crossword Magic and Crossword Maker, which was released in 1996. As with many Cosmi products, registration at the developer's site garners for the user a choice from several free download bonus programs. Players can use five included dictionaries simultaneously (Extra, Multimedia, Numbers, Standard, and Worldwide) as well as create and/or install up to 100 other dictionaries on their hard drive.

New enhanced functions include use of graphic and sound data as clues, the use of numbers in puzzles, selectable puzzle sizes ranging from 10x10 to 100x100 grids, a Pattern Editor, a virtual keyboard for entering letters by mouse, and a Beginner's Panel listing all the letters in the correct answer. Additional options feature Status Bar, Toolbar, and Tool tips menus, a Quick Help function, relaxed restrictions on files (previous version allowed only two dictionaries at a time), and transference of the user's Fixed and Custom dictionaries from the previous edition.

Crossword Maker 2000 allows usage of puzzles created with the software to be published in magazines, newspapers and other print media with an appropriate caveat stating the source of the program. The newly revised program contains more than 10,000 words and the developers promise an optional dictionary for download at their website. In addition to customizing puzzle sizes and content, players can also select from preexisting pattern files including Big X, Donuts, Marks, Names, Normal, and Rounded Corners.
