You would ferment human sewage and then inhale the vapors. It is an alleged hallucinogenic drug, made from noxious gas; which is the result of the fermentation. I do not advice use of this drug. Many media reports have stated that this drug has been used widely among teenagers in places including, but not limited to; Lusaka, Zambia.

They use fecal matter from the sewers, and store it inside plastic bottles. It is left in those bottles, and left warm for around a week. It is then that they inhale the numbing and intoxicating fumes. The effects of inhalation include audio and visual hallucinations. Teenagers who have used the drug say that is makes them 'fearless'.

There are many reasons not to use Jenkem. One of the most important ones is the effect on the health. The possibility of oral-fecal contamination is great, as there is virtually no way for the drug to be taken in a 'hygienic' way. It could lead to both diarrhea and other gastrointestinal infections. Studies show that the inhalation of the gases released from Jenkem could cause hypoxia, a lack of oxygen flow to the body. This could easily cause long term physical damage.
Not to mention the fact that the taste of sewage usually remains in the mouth of the drug-user for around three days.

There are many reports which simply state that the effects of this 'drug' are false.
