Guinea pigs are very shy creatures. I have four of them. The one who loves me most runs away every time I try to take him. It needs company. Keeping only one pig shortens their lfe drastically, and makes them unhappy. Get two females or two very young males. If you have a male, get a baby male. They will get along nicely unless you introduce them to some ladies. then they will start to fight and will never stop. Hay is important, and always use organic vegetables and wash them very thoroughly, because guinea pigs eat a lot of it and are very small - very small amounts of pesticides can kill them.
The guinea pig als needs space. for two pigs, I would recommend half a sqaure meter. Give them a house to hide, since they need that - they are shy. Don't push it. Give love and it will come back.
