Usually in terms of gauge, 22 ga steel is .0299 in thick, the actual thickness for different materials
varies aluminum of the same gauge is somewhat thinner than steel, galvanized steel is a little thicker than plain steel of the same gauge. A micrometer is one way to measure it, there are gauge plates that have slots for each size.
