Click the button you would use to purchase furniture. Once in that mode tap the object to move then either drag it or use the rotate button.
If you click on them there is an option called "Move out" When you click on that, there is a pop up which lets you decide who to move out with.
You have to go to your inventory on one of your Sims. Then you grab your furniture and click in your inventory. Then you have it wherever you go.
