using a socket and a breaker bar, engage the nut on the tensioner and rotate it against the pressure of its spring ,the belt will become slack and can be replaced ...follow diagram on sticker nearby for proper routing of belt. gere
DJ London: Going in from underneath is the best route for the tensioner removal
Pull on the belt and you can see how the tensioner moves. Put a wrench on the bolt.
"How do you move the idle tensioner for a 1998 3 litre dodge?"
No the depth of the wheel will hit the front brake caliper. it will not be obvious until you go to move.
The alternator will move in and out to tighten the belt and the PS pump will do the same
You don't mention which engine but on my 90 3.3 I put a wrench on it and just move it. It's kinda hard.
the 3rd row seat has a level under it. the middle seat 9 out of 10 times it doesn't move at all.
No.
Stuck brakes, broken axle shaft, failed transmission....
place a wrench on the bolt in the center of the tensioner and push if you feel nothing push the other way and you will see that the whole assy is spring loaded and will move to release tension on the belt
You can adjust the belt tensioner by loosening the tensioner bolt. When the tensioner bolt is loose the tensioner pulley can move back and fourth.
Most of them move some but if your belt is squeeling you probably need to replace the tensioner.
Slipping , slow to move, won't move, shudder, chatter, all are damaging to transmission.
