well, it depends on what kind of harvest moon you are playing. if it's island of happiness, there is some kind of four button in your touch screen, that's the equipment slots. to equip it, simply touch the button and touch it again to use it and to un equip it, go to your rucksack and move the tool/thing to your rucksack and then place it again in your equipment slots.
