and so on...
A neat little trick that works on a lot of compaqs is this. Open up your case (with the power off of course) and unplug the ribbon cable from the back of the floppy drive.
When the system boots, it will give an error message & kindly ask if youd like to enter BIOS (or setup menu)
When youre done, dont forget to shut down & plug the cable back in.
READ ALL DIRECTIONS BEFORE STARTING!!
1. Shutdown your computer.
2. Turn it back on.
3. When you turn it back on, press F2, F8, or F12 (depending on your computer manufacturer) when you get to the screen that says the maker of your computer.
4. Now you are there!
Note: Be careful when you are using the BIOS, some settings can cause the computer to behave unexpectedly. Also, the BIOS cannot be accessed through the GUI (Graphical User Interface)/Operating System
The button used for this can vary from computer to computer. Most commonly you will need to press DEL F2 or F10 during startup.
The system may only give you a brief second to hit the prescribed key, so press it like mad right when you power on the machine and keep pressing it over and over until you either get the BIOS menu (success!) or operating system (failure!).
If its not Del F2 F10 or any other key, look it up on the manufacturers website, you may have to dig a bit, but they'll generally tell you what key it is.
Failing all that, a neat little last ditch trick that sometimes works, shut the machine off & unplug the floppy drive or remove a stick of ram. When you power it back on you might just get an error message saying "floppy drive missing... enter setup menu? Y/N"
It's different for every computer and every OS , when your OS icon comes up , for example it says windows 7 is starting up , just swipe your hand across the whole keyboard , and their , the BIOS
[DEL] or [F2] are standard. If neither works you should research this at the manufacturer website.
Restart your computer and before it starts loading Windows (your computer's brand logo is shown), press F12.
