How do you open your samsonite luggage if you have lost the code?

Answer:
AMAZING!. it works!
a magnifying glass held steady to the Right of the tumbler helps. and a desk lamp so you don't have to hold a flash light too.

000 is the default... but if the lock gets "accidentally" changed here is what you do...

Answer

  • Use a flashlight to look into the rotating numbers.
  • Watch to the inside of the number you are turning and you will see a piece of metal that moves with the number.
  • Turn the 1st rotating number one at a time, while watching that metal piece, eventually you will see a divot come around. LEAVE THE NUMBER IN THAT PLACE.
  • Continue with the next two rotating numbers, watching for that divot.
  • When all three have the divot, viola, that is the current set combination.
  • In some cases the divots may be hard to see. Set all three number divots to look the same. Then cycle the three tumblers together one number at a time, trying to unlock after each number turn. You may have to try ten times to unlock.

To RESET THE COMBO:
  • With the case open, and the current combo in place, hold down the shackle (the little grey or black button beside the combination numbers).
  • While holding this shackle down, rotate the numbers to the number YOU WILL REMEMBER. (Holding the shackle down allows the numbers to tumble without moving the divots.)
  • Let go of the shackle -these numbers are now associated with the divots.
  • Now your combination should be set to the number you wish.

If that doesn't work for you, you might as well get a new set of luggage. (I know, sad, but true) I would suggest going for a discounted set since luggage can get really expensive. And this time try remembering the combo.

Follow-up:

I was able to open my suitcase using the answer above. Here are a couple of tips:

The little hole or divot in the shaft was to the right of the wheel and hidden unless one pushes the wheel to the left while turning it. When all the shaft holes are lined up the lock would open by pushing the release mechanism tabs on either side of the lock.

Note that the release mechanism does not open by squeezing the center latch tabs together or pushing them apart. Instead one must move BOTH together to the right and the word OPEN will appear.
