I use iwantchecks.com where you can choose any design, from almost any vendor. You can get sports checks, puppy checks, college checks and even checks where you supply the photo. But you can go to Deluxe or Hartland or any vendor you want.
Any company will be fine - choose based on price and selection.
Some banks charge a fortune - some are reasonable.
