First of all, you will need a good, steady tripod on which to mount your camera. If you are using a film camera, use 400 ASA film. In a digital camera, set the ISO to 400. Use a medium to wide angle lens, since you cannot predict exactly where the fireworks will burst. Open the lens about midway - f9 or so. Opening it too much will cause the fireworks to be overexposed and you will lose color and definition. A shutter speed of 1/25 should work. Use multiple exposure sutter if you can. Watch a few fireworks to see where they are generally bursting, and point your camera in that area. Listen for the 'thud' when the firework mortar is fired. Count to three and start shooting. Do not use flash, and try to set up in an area where there are no streetlights or other bright spots in your field of view.
