How do you prevent heartbreak?

Answer:
Before starting the relationship:

  1. Only date people based on what you have learned from your past relationships; always upgrade--no down-grading.
  2. Don't ever get too attached.  Realize that no one is ever obligated to each other and appreciate whatever each person gives.
  3. Be clear-cut and straight forward from the beginning.  Whatever important things need to be known should be released before there is too much investment into each other and your times are wasted.  Decide if it's what you want before you commit yourself to the other person.

Right before the break-up:
  1. Think about all of the stuff you don't like about them and how relieved you will be when you don't have to deal with it anymore.
  2. Distract yourself with hobbies and friends and projects and errands and organizing and whatever else you enjoy.
  3. Start looking for someone that fulfills aspects of the relationship they couldn't fulfill so that you will have officially learned from your mistakes and be moved on to someone more satisfying.
