There are two different pronunciations of Ó Ciardha depending on which dialect of Irish is being used.

In the west of the Ireland the "dh" is silent and is pronounced as "O Keer-ah" putting emphasis on "Keer"

In the rest of Ireland it is pronounced almost with an extra syllable in the middle of the name. Also the "dh" has the sound of a "g". The full name is pronounced as "O Keer-i-gah"

The name comes from the Irish word "Ciar" meaning dark.
