The word 'the' can be pronounced either as 'thuh' (with basically a short 'u' sound) or as 'thee' (with a long 'e' sound). Either way is correct.

actually the pronunciation depends on the word directly following it, generally if the next word begins with a consonant (e.g the bus), then 'the' should be pronounced 'thuh'. however if the next word begins with a vowel (e.g the army) then 'the' is pronounced 'thee'.

there are exceptions for this rule, for example with words that begin with 'h', either thuh or thee is acceptable, though technically it should be 'thuh' as the silent 'h' has pretty much been phased out of modern English usage.
