How do you protect plants against moles?

[Edit]

Answer

Moles can be a problem in certain areas. I have not had this problem in my yard or ranch, so everything you read here is second hand.

It seems that there are two approaches to this, chemical or physical. My thoughts on the chemical approach is negative. I do not like using poisons. Often times, they kill the beneficials and still leave you with the same problem. I am not totally against the use of chemicals when I think that their use is justified, however. I use the IPM approach, Integrated Pest Management. When levels of a pest reach an economic level of damage, then measures are taken. So, the question is: are the moles causing such a level of damage, that measures are necessary? That is a question you must decide.

FarmTek is a company that specializes in these types of issues and I have bought from them on many occasions. They carry a line of products, both chemical and physical that should suit your situation. They are available online or you can request a printed catalog.
