You need to understand how to read the map. Make sure that you know what the latitude and longitude on the map mean to read it correctly.
Obtain or view a "US" military map (non-aviation or naval type); locate square 5843; your position will be in that square. Read the numbers right then up...58 reading right, 43 reading up. Read the numbers NOT the lines!
You cant but, you can look at a map to estimate the coordinates!
It means the map sheet is divided into grid squares... for example, military maps are divided into 1 square kilometer squares, to determine coordinates on various points of the map.
