In 1 Corinthians verse 10-12, the author of the letter to the church says that it has come to his attention that they are divided about what they should do and believe.
Apparently some had written to him and ask what they should do, Chapter 1, verse 1. Chapter 7, verse 6 "But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment" meaning this is his opinion and not a direct command from God.
Verse 7 "For I would that all men were even as I myself" he has chosen to remain unmarried. Verse 9, "But if they connot contain, let them marry", Verse 2, "Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and every woman her own husband".
Verse 32, "He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord" In other words if a person were not divided between responsibilities of a family he has more time to devote to spreading the gospel.
