How do you remove the kitchen sink?

Most sinks are held down with clips and bolts from underneath. Around the rim there should be clips clamping the sink to the countertop. The sink may have a bead of caulking under the rim to seal out water. Some have a separate trim ring around the sink and others don't.

I have removed some with very strong long nosed pliers stuck down them, but really you need a tool that is like a short pipe with 4 slots cut in it. They are never easy to get out. There are also 3 common threads, take yours to the store with you for replacement.

Unscrew it from the bottom at the trap first. There is usually a 'nut' each side of the trap that you can undo with a small pipe wrench. The actual sink drain undoes by removing the large metal nut right under the sink and pushing the drain tube up through the sink. Bathroom and kitchen sinks differ a bit, but the principle is the same.

You will probably have to get under the sink to raise it by hand. Once up, you should be able to twist it around until it comes loose.
