Buy a gear puller, if you are trying to remove the gear because you need to pull the head, leave the gear on and pull the entire cam. Cat sells the tools, most of them are proprietary although Google search OTC tools and other dealer level tool manufacturers. Snap-On, Mac or Matco may have these tools as well.

Can the timing gear that you see when you remove the distributor on a 1969 350 Chevy engine be pulled out while removing the distributor and change the position of the gear that drives the distributor?

There is a gear on the distributor shaft and a gear on the end of the camshaft that it engages with. The gear on the camshaft cannot be removed as it is part of the camshaft. The gear on the distributor shaft can be removed if it is worn; however, this is rare. These two gears must be in proper mesh for the engine to run; one cog off and it will not start. If you need further assistance google ' finding top dead center on a 350 chevy'.

Remove front grille, drain water and remove radiator. Remove all belts, remove timing cover and crankshaft dampner. Removes distributor. Timing gear on older models was pressed onto camshaft (not sure about 90 model trucks) . If gear is pressed on , you have to pull the camshaft out and have a machine shop press it off for you and have the new camshaft gear pressed on. no chain only gears in m,y 94 f-150 I dont think they press on so no need to remove front grill maybe in alittle different order also
