Open boot. Remove the two retaining screws with the screwdriver tool provided in the boot toolkit (or use a number 10 box spanner if tight).
Use a cloth to dry/clean the outside of the light housing (to make it easier to grip).
Place palm of one hand on the glass, other hand on the top black plastic bit.
Pull/slide the whole light housing back and slightly down (along the horizontal line of the bottom of the light housing). Quite a bit of force is needed as there are 2 retaining lugs inside the housing unit at the back which have to be pulled away from the car body, and 1 retaining clip at the bottom of the unit. I find it best to wiggle the whole unit up and down slightly while pulling/sliding back.
Once you feel the 2 retaining lugs come away, be careful not to pull the unit too far away from the body as the wires into the bulb cluster unit aren't that long and will break if yanked too hard. When the light housing is off, the internal bulb cluster unit is removed by pressing in the 3 retaining clips.
As of Sept 2012, a rear break/traillight bulb costs around 80p from a local motor factors shop (you'll pay a couple of quid at Halfords!).
