Answer
Try mineral spirits. Start in a small spot to make sure it doesn't damage the wood, but it SHOULD pull the wax without harming the wood. If the wood has varnish, laquer or some other sealer over the surface that will keep water out of the grain, you can also try some ice. Ice will make the wax brittle, and you should be able to just scrape most of it off with a fingernail. Reapply the ice when the wax starts to soften.
If you decide to try the mineral spirits, make sure a window is open and you have a way to get rid of the fumes. Most varnishes, laquers and polyurethanes are not damaged by mineral spirits, but don't use laquer thinner, acetone, nail polish or any other solvents.
If the oak is stained with just an oil stain and no sealer, you may need to use a little danish oil stain when you're done. But if it has varnish, laquer or some other sealer you shouldn't harm anything with the mineral spirits.
