At any hard ware store or even Walmart you can buy a product called "Goo-B-Gone" works on every thing...from gum to shoe scuff marks to paint on a hardwood floors.
If it is the adhesive that the floor was installed with, try a quick squirt of WD-40 let sit for 10 minutes and rub gently with soft cloth, if that removes or reduces it keep it up till its all gone. Wood finishes are for the most part Urethane these days, so paint thinner, Lacquer thinner or even oily nail polish remover might hurt the finish. On a personal note, if the installer left the residue, make them come back & remove it, they have a product that will reduce or remove with them if they are pro's.
Try using Murphy's Oil Soap to wash off the wood to remove the residue.

leave it to harden and then scrape off using a plastic scraper to prevent scraping the floor.
I called Anderson Wood Floors because I have the same problem, and they told me to use Mineral Spirits; that it should get all the residue off, however not without using a bit of "elbow grease." I have not tried it yet, as I just got the info.
I haven't tried it on wood but lighter fluid seems to get most things off. Acetone too, but it might damage the wood.
there are steamers that will remove the wax from floors. you can buy or rent them.

It depends on who you get to do the job .I did it myself and it wasnt that hard

I found out that Rubbing alcohol will remove dried latex paint on hard wood floors.
