How do you remove the exhaust manifold on an 83 Chevy half ton with a L6 4.1 liter engine and manual 4 speed trans?

[Edit]

Answer

Chances are you have one of the engines with an integral manifold. These cannot be removed from the cylinder head. These motors were notorious for cracks in the exhaust manifolds. That's the bad news.

The good news is that many of the 250 c.i. L6 motors from Chevrolet used the same head bolt/water & oil passage patterns so you may be able to swap the head for one from a 1974 or earlier motor. Or, if you want to swap for a 74 or earlier motor, they will go right in.
