How do you remove the fan belt from 1989 gm safari?

[Edit]

Answer

I'm going to assume you mean a serpentine belt.

Look for the idler pulley, belt tensioner under the hood, about the center.

Place a socket on the bolt holding the pulley and with a breaker bar or long 1/2 ratchet, try to loosen the bolt.

You should notice the belt tensioner will move rather than the bolt. Continue to move until enough slack develops in the belt to remove, then slowly move the tensioner back to it's resting spot.

*USE CAUTION AND THE RIGHT TOOLS*

DO NOT TRY TO PRY ON THE TENSIONER! There is alot of force there and you could easily get seriously injured.
