I just got done doing my wifes 2003 Impala. I removed the brace which runs from the pass. side to the drivers side. did not have to remove the upper motor mounts. I had a heck of a time removing the spark plug wire,so I broke the old spark plug off by using a 3/8" extention with a crows foot attached [this let the crows foot to go back toward the head ]. I simplely broke the end of the spark plug off with the plug wire still in place, then I removed the plug from the cylinder head. The heat shield slides off the spark plug boot for easy removal of the top end of the spark plug. This saved me a lot of time. only took 45 min. to change the back 3 plugs. I learned this the hard way the first time around. Hope that this helps.
