A lot of older window cranks are held in with a clip which is difficult to get out unless you buy a special tool sold at auto parts stores made just for this application. If you ask at the parts store they will know just what you're talking about. The tool is pretty cheap in price from what I remember.
there is a special tool you have to get to be able to slide behind base of handle and slide out the horse shoe retaining clip sometimes if you can see the clip behind there a flat head screwdriver may work
i have had to do this so many times to my excel, because of its dodgy window mechanisms, (btw, i found the best thing to do after it stuffs up too many times is too get a new mechanism at the Hyundai wrecker!)
ok, theres a little metal bent 'U' shaped pin that clips around the part of the handle that's inside the door skin. it takes patience, but you need to get medium sized flat head screwdriver, wedge it behind the winder and make a gap between the winder and the door skin. locate the closed side if the metal pin, and pop it out...sounds easy enough, but it can be tricky to see in there... if you cant pop it out from the closed end, kind of use the screwdriver to pry it off from the open side, hard to explain, but i think this way opens the 'U' up and you can whip it off. NOTE- don't lose the pin, u need it for the winder to stay on when you put it back together!!
i find the easiest way to replace the winder and pin is to hold the pin in place on the winder..in line with the little gaps (you'll see what i mean) then put the handle in place and use the screwdriver again, or something else handy, to clip the pin back in place.
hope this helps, and good luck!

You can get a Window handle remover from an automotive parts store that'll help remove a clip that holds on the handle. With this you can remove the clip and then the handle.

there are 3 rivets, they have to be drilled out then there are special rivets you have to put back in.
If you use a towel or rag to get behind the crank and run it back it forth it will pop the clip lose so you can remove it.
throw a rock at it
Solenoid going bad remove and replace starter assembly.
Remove the OUTER door skin to get to the window hardware. Lift the outer handle, press out the two retaining pins then, with the door open, remove the screws that are around the edge. You will find some of them by examining the bottom inside of the door. After the screws and outer door handle are removed, the door skin just lifts off and you can get to all of the window hardware.
sounds like a bad iac motor(idle air control) or vacuum leak
