You jack up the one corner of the vehicle and place it on a jack stand. then you remove the tire. Then remove the upper balljoint castle nut and split the ball joint. Then all that's left is to remove the two bolts securing the control arm to the frame and you should be able to pull the control arm out.
They are pressed in and out with a set of special tools.
Replace the front upper and lower ball joints.
It is under the housing that the upper radiator hose hooks to on the engine.
It's attached to the wheel hub and plugs in on the chasis above the upper control arm. I think you have to replace the entire wheel hub to fix it.
You have to replace the whole control arm on front upper ball joints in that particular vehicle.

Starting with the lower aft knob (the one closest to the input jack) and moving clockwise, the controls are as follows: Tone Control for the Bridge Pickup, Tone Control for the Neck Pickup, Volume Control for the Neck Pickup, Volume Control for the Bridge Pickup. I have 2000 expedition and thought i could change then. After taking my wheel off i notice they could not be change. You need to replace the upper control arm.
If its 2 wheel drive, you will need a press. Those ball joints are pressed into the upper and lower control arms. If it is 4 Wheel drive you need to remove the rivets with either an air chisel or to drill them out.
I have a '96 and I know they changed some things, but to my knowledge it's not necessary. I've completely removed my upper control arms without touching the coil springs. The coil spring goes from the lower arm to the frame, and the upper only connects to the steering knuckle.
You have to change the upper control arm.
